Motherhood is the ultimate in #payitforward. As newbie grandmothers, we get to embrace all the ‘firsts’—every nanny shnuggle, every Vegemite kiss—with reverence and love (clean clothes be damned). When raising our own kids (trying to be the modern “do-it-all, have-it-all” working mums) it was a constant battle between crazy commitment and just crossing our fingers and hoping for the best. Watching our daughters become amazing mothers, we feel proud and humbled (although we’d like to take a teensy bit of credit).
What’s been thrown into sharp focus is the generational impact of maternal love and family connectedness we’ve been blessed with. ‘Gratitude’ toward mums, nannas, aunts, and motherly peers isn’t a strong enough sentiment. Perhaps it’s aspiration? Now, we’re doing all we can to pay it forward—to our children and our children’s children, in the hope they will someday realise the same.
So, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there—whether you’re a mother, grandmother, aunt, or mama to dogs, cats, chickens, or plants… make sure to pay it forward! xx
